Femi-Zemi & Café is a Tokyo-based NGO dedicated to promoting intersectional feminism. It was formed through the collaboration of two groups: Yuru-Femi Café, established in 2014, which organizes arts, theater, film, and café events with an intersectional feminist focus; and Femi-Zemi, established in 2017, which conducts educational programs, research, publications, and advocacy activities. These two groups jointly founded the current Femi-Zemi & Café, which officially registered as a non-profit organization incorporated under Japanese law in 2022.
The mission of Femi-Zemi & Café is to:
- Revitalize feminism through an intersectional perspective
- Create spaces for younger generations to engage in activism
- Expand learning opportunities about feminism
- Advance social movements using diverse approaches to achieve a discrimination-free society
- Cultivate activists dedicated to building a society free from discrimination
To achieve these goals, Femi-Zemi & Café is committed to:
- Eliminating unpaid labor and activities that require free participation
- Opposing paternalism
- Engaging in proactive advocacy
- Constantly questioning and updating what is considered “standard” or “common sense”
