Femi-Zemi & Café is a Tokyo-based NGO dedicated to promoting intersectional feminism. It was formed through the collaboration of two groups: Yuru-Femi Café, established in 2014, which organizes arts, theater, film, and café events with an intersectional feminist focus; and Femi-Zemi, established in 2017, which conducts educational programs, research, publications, and advocacy activities. These two groups jointly founded the current Femi-Zemi & Café, which officially registered as a non-profit organization incorporated under Japanese law in 2022.

The mission of Femi-Zemi & Café is to:

  • Revitalize feminism through an intersectional perspective
  • Create spaces for younger generations to engage in activism
  • Expand learning opportunities about feminism
  • Advance social movements using diverse approaches to achieve a discrimination-free society
  • Cultivate activists dedicated to building a society free from discrimination

To achieve these goals, Femi-Zemi & Café is committed to:

  • Eliminating unpaid labor and activities that require free participation
  • Opposing paternalism
  • Engaging in proactive advocacy
  • Constantly questioning and updating what is considered “standard” or “common sense”
